My family and I stayed at this hotel for two nights while exploring Portland, Maine. For the most part, our experience was enjoyable. The room was spacious and well-maintained, and the lobby and common areas had a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Initially, we felt the hotel deserved a 5-star rating. Unfortunately, an incident on our second night significantly impacted our perception. After a pleasant evening out, we returned to the hotel to unwind. My 6-year-old son noticed the snack area near the front desk and was excited to see his favorite treat—vanilla Häagen-Dazs ice cream. We purchased it for him and went back to our room. When he opened it, he complained that it was too hard, so he began chipping away at it with his spoon. At first, I assumed it was just frozen solid. However, moments later, he began gagging and said, “It doesn’t taste good.” This was surprising, as he loves vanilla ice cream and rarely complains about it. Curious, I tasted it myself and was shocked to find that it was spoiled. The flavor and texture made it clear that the ice cream had thawed and refrozen at some point, compromising its quality. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done. My son’s stomach reacted poorly to the spoiled ice cream, and he suffered from diarrhea throughout the night. This unexpected situation cut our trip short, as we decided to head home to ensure he received proper care.
