It was a very odd stay. Check in isn't at the main Sportsman's Inn building, it's at the bar of the restaurant next door. I had no interaction with actual accommodation staff, just a lady behind the bar who had me sign a paper and gave me my room key. The key went in a lockbox when I left in the morning.
My room wasn't in in the main building, it was in the white building behind Mugs coffee shop. I don't think any of the photos from the website are from this building - or at least of the room I was in. There was so much damage that I took photos in case they tried to claim it was me. Gouges on the walls, stained carpet, a visibly janky dresser drawer. There was a fair amount of mildew around the windows, which I assume is why the heat was cranked.
The room setup was weird too - the bed faced the door and the TV was between the bed and the bathroom, with a chair in the corner that didn't really face the TV.
The noise transfer from the upstairs suite was ... a lot/ Super creaky floors and I could hear them talking. Thankfully I sleep with earplugs.
If booking at the Sportsman I'd ask to stay in the other building as it looked newer. I stayed my second night at the Black Bear Lodge. It was double the price but a lot cleaner and nicer - and had a generator so there was power while the rest of Port McNeill, aside from the IGA, was down.
Definitely get what you pay for!
