There were a few detractors from the cabins, but they were overwhelmed by the positives by far. You should note that the cabins' bathrooms are detached, but they are clean with good hot running water. The few trout in the lake are catch and release only, but there is an unlimited amount in Birch Lake, just 45 minutes down the road. Jim is more than willing to give you all the pointers or advice to bring them home. Also, the Wifi was down when I was there. However, that was because of a storm. Despite these setbacks, the cabins were an incredibly good place to stay. I saw beavers and sand bill cranes while staying there, the nature around was incredible, and Jim did everything possible to make my stay as good as it could be. When he learned I was interested in gold panning, he personally took me to two spots within 15 minutes of Fairbanks where I could pan for all the gold I wanted, and he gave me pointers on methods and techniques. You won't get that service at the local hotels.
