“It was a welcome surprise to find the strong emphasis on environmental responsibility at this hotel. The decor was modern and very pleasant, plants, gardens and fishponds to experience. Most of the roofs were covered with solar panels. Bicycles were available for use, and purified water was freely available. The room was modernized (this is a fairly old building) and thoughtfully equipped. The only drawback was the busy road next to the room and the sound of airplanes from the nearby airport.……

“This is the real Hawaii! The property is located in a relatively remote area about 30 minutes south of Pahoa. Beautiful setting in the middle of a forest not too far from the beach. Isaac Hale Park is within walking distance and although the beach isn’t very safe for swimming there is a pond there that you can swim in. The accommodations are primitive and like camping but Mango Cabin was very spacious and the beds were VERY comfy. It is off-grid but there is electricity to the cabins. The cabins……

“First, this property is cool if you know what you are getting into. This is way off the off the grid living. You are staying on a lava field in a shipping container. That is the cool part. It is remote, and just wow for sunset and sunrise. The host, Ron, was nice and communicated well. The location on VRBO makes it appear on Chain of Craters road just near the famed sea arch in Volcanoes National park - a big reason we picked it. However just a bit east of there the road has been closed……
