The nicest thing I will say about this property is the owners are responsive. Having said that, my review continues.
I was chased out by vermin.
From first glance, it is a working class neighborhood, which is not a problem but was not advertised. I was not able to discern whether or not my car or my stuff would be safe here and that's a problem. I know when I stay somewhere what is good and what is not, and this place is on the border of those two to say the least. In fact, I would say categorically, this is not the neighborhood for a vacation rental! But, I had paid for the place so I decided it was going to work.
The kitchen, however, was the most depressing area, by far, of the unit. The dishes were, at best, scant, and the area so broken down, the knobs didn't even fit the drawers. Somehow, they had placed knobs that had screws too long for the drawer face, so they were loose all the time. On top of that, it just seemed incomplete. I wish I had listened to the person who had reviewed it before I did, mentioning roaches. I saw evidence of them and traps everywhere, including ultrasonic pest repellers. I've lived in Texas before, so I know they can be an issue, but I do expect a cleaner area than what I saw. The kitchen just didn't FEEL like it was ready for a guest.
I dutifully cleaned it up anyway, went shopping and placed my first batch of food into the refrigerator and on the counter. It was a long day so I went to bed having felt like I could manage the three months and make the most of this place since it was paid for and fairly convenient to where I needed to be each day.
Then, I hear rustling as I slept. I paid it no mind until I heard it again. It sounded like the plastic bags under the sink were being disturbed. I checked the outside and looked in the kitchen and sure enough the plastic bags from my shopping trip were strewn about under the sink. Plus, my plantains had been nibbled! I saw the niblets which were definitely not there when I went to bed. I was enraged. I sent a text and voicemail to the landlord and packed my things immediately. I left that morning as soon as day broke. I told them I was expecting a refund and I got it, to their credit. One night and vermin ran me out.
It took a few calls and emails to get my refund but it happened and for that I am thankful. Nonetheless, I post this as a warning to all who would rent, take heed, this place is not nearly as pretty as the pictures would indicate.
Good luck!
