Have you ever watched “This Old House” and thought how cool it would be to restore a gem in the rough, and then make it into so much more. Well, I did just that. Now that’s off my bucket list – forever. Yet, I really feel good about the your future vacation house. I truly brought out the best in this old house and made it into the ultimate short-term vacation home.
This Midcentury mountain-cabin has somewhat of a look and feel of a Frank Lloyd Wright design. It screams character from every room. The outdoor space is incredible too.
From the moment you enter the home, you will be welcomed to an entryway built around natural stones and wood. The stained-glass windows will shimmer at times. The wooden railing is a work of art within itself. You’ll immediately feel relaxed and welcomed as you gaze towards the indoor garden waterfall.
You’ll then walk through a paneled glass door, into the living room and dining area. An oversized fireplace with gas logs and comfy antique furniture will put you right at ease. Or go ahead and switch on the OLED TV if you please. To your right is the uniquely designed kitchen, with a large Viking gas range. It’s fully stocked with all the cooking appliances you might want. Your eyes will then be drawn to the light and wood of another dining-area shaped in an octagon with windows at every angle. The large round table allows you to see incredible views of the Glenwood Canyon and the Glenwood Arch.
The bedrooms are divided into what I like to call the west-wing, east-wing and garden level. Each room is thematically decorated. The mattresses are high-quality and so comfortable for a good night’s sleep. The garden-level bedroom is one-of-a-kind. I took one look at it, and thought, this room wants a waterbed. It’s a free-flowing Queen waterbed – popular in the 70’s and 80’s.
Within the garden-level area is a movie-room and bar area with built-in cabinets, mini-fridge, board games and more. The TV is a 65inch Sony Brava OLED! I even found a picture of The Duke and had a spotlight installed to highlight John Wayne. On the other-side of the movie-room is the game-room with air hockey and two arcade cocktail tables, one features PONG the other Marvel. There is also a massage chair to loosen-up and relax all those aching muscles after a fun day of skiing, biking, hiking, rafting, rock climbing and all those fun things to do in the Roaring Fork Valley.
All four bathrooms were extensively remodeled. Beautiful, tiled showers, two with shower towers and one featuring two shower heads. Each bathroom has Toto toilets, three with bidet washlets – oh yeah-warm seats with rinse and blow dry.
The outdoor area includes a nice deck, gas grill, and fire-pit with sectional seating. The Jacuzzi hot tub is large with seating for six-to-eight. It all overlooks the Glenwood Canyon and those ever so powerful canyon walls. A rustic trail leads down to the No Name Creek, it’s about 200 yards in length with an elevation change of 50 feet. For your families protection, a locked safety gate is at the beginning of the trailhead.
The extensive driveway was built of bricks. There is plenty of parking, to include space for trailers with big girl and boy toys - RZR, OHV, Snowmobiles, rafts and such. A large two-car garage is available during snow season.
The house is so close to most everything Glenwood Springs has to offer.
