Secluded Cottage on Private Estate

Five minutes from Carmel or Monterey, this home is a dream get-away for a couple seeking quiet beauty and charm as a way to balance all the easily accessed fun of the Peninsula. This Jack's Peak secret paradise is a discovery you won't want to miss. This cottage used to be a milking barn for a small farm. It is now part of a very exotic estate on 23 acres in Jack's Peak. It is completely secluded and the entrance to the estate is gated. It is about 575 square feet, with a combined kitchen/living area, bedroom, and a bath with a shower. It was recently remodeled and is very comfortable. The patio area is lovely (one of the most enjoyable areas) and is enclosed by sequoia redwoods that are about 20 years old. It has a gas grill and a fire pit, as well as an overhanging grape arbor.
The house is heated when necessary by a wood burning stove/fireplace. (There is plenty of wood to fuel the fires!) The passive solar from the windows on the patio are usually sufficient to heat the house, however. Space heaters that quickly warm it are also available.
There is a wonderfully comfortable King size bed. The glass-sided shower is tiled to the ceiling and the shower head with hose is marvelous with several settings. Luxury shampoos and towels are provided.
The "water closet" (toilet) has its own small private space.

Guest Access

Guests will have ample private parking and of course the private patio area.
There are beautiful Arabian horses on the property who love any extra apples you might want to share on the way to a hike in Jack's Peak Regional Park, which is an easy walk from our driveway. 900 acres to hike and enjoy the view.

Interaction with Guests

I will greet you and go over essentials. Thereafter I will be available by phone to help with any questions or issues. There are other residents on the estate who could help in an all-out emergency, but privacy for all is the rule of the day.

The Neighborhood

We love the birds! Owls, Redwing Hawks. Oh so many birds. We feed them, too. Our neighbors treasure their privacy and this is considered a rural neighborhood, with five acre minimums to build. Very quiet, and we ask our guests to be relatively quiet also.

Beautiful and eclectic masterpiece
This was the most interesting and gorgeous place I've ever stayed. Read the articles and booklets about the place! It was hand built by the owner over 10 years with art and architectural pieces collected from around the world over the course of his lifetime. Absolutely fascinating and incredible.

A beautiful Casita
This property is so beautiful. The aesthetics outside were delightful. We love Carmel.. we would like to see the owner update the listing, because there was no outdoor tub that was usable. We tried heating up water in a tea pot to warm up some warm water from the Spicket but when we tried to get in it, it was not usable. We also tried to use the little fireplace that they had in there as it was extremely cold at night, but the fireplace wouldn’t keep a fire going. I guess because it hadn’t been cleaned properly. We were able to borrow a space heater though, and that helped tremendously. We were also disappointed that there were not Arabian horses there the owner told us that they had to move them to a different property because of the dry dust.

Most excellent stay
This place was in te country and very quiet with an artistic and very functional house plus a huge deck. Sunny every day (above the fog line) and we mostly stayed at the place. Took some nice hikes. The host was wonderful and we want to go back soon.

OMG! Where to begin! Peterson was amazingly hospitable. His Casita was perfect with a fabulous patio. My Newfie, Linus was treated like royalty. The fire pit and fireplace were wonderfully cozy after a day at the beach. 2 huge screen TVs with all the amenities. My favorite thing was not hearing any traffic, just birds. It was so awesome. This property has so many artifacts and art work. You can tell much love went into this. One could easily spend hours strolling the grounds looking at everything. I want to live there! We will be back. It is also 5 minutes to Carmel and Monterey.

Peaceful retreat
I could spend days on the back patio - so beautiful and peaceful. The cottage is very private with a separate driveway, but you can see the main house up the hill so you don't feel totally isolated. 10 minute drive to Carmel (but you may not want to leave the fire pit!). Super comfy bed, well equipped kitchen, tons of art from around the world. Everything you need.

Quiet and Quaint - Peaceful
Everything in the area is less than 10min from the property. Perfect place to relax and enjoy all views and sounds of the Monterey Coast. Katy's Place for breakfast and Mission Ranch for dinner with a walk up to Jack's Peak from the property to keep down the weight gain between eateries.

It is a lovely little cottage with many amenities the host was helpful and kind.
The cottage on a large estate is secluded and private. The forest off the back deck was nice to wake up to every morning, sun or fog.

Wonderfully Quiet Cottage, but very close to everything!
Spent a nice long anniversary weekend here recently. The cottage was excellent in every way. Was very comfortably furnished with everything needed to be able to cook meals or just stretch out and enjoy the serenity and relaxation with a nice glass of wine and cozy fire on the patio. The house and property are incredibly relaxing and wonderful. It is also 5 minutes into Carmel by the Sea and really close to most anything in the area (Carmel Valley, Point Lobos, Monterrey, 17 Mile drive, even Big Sur). We were pretty busy but still made breakfast here every morning and typically some time in the afternoon to relax before going back out for dinner. The grounds of the property are beautiful and very peaceful! We made use of Jake's Peak (1/2 mile down the road) for a nice invigorating hike and gorgeous views of Monterrey peninsula and bay. Great hike and never saw another soul. Would visit again in a heart beat, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Cheryl was also great to work with. Thanks for the memories!

A PERFECT rental in Carmel!
My husband and I came to Carmel for a wedding and were so pleased with Cheryl's rental. It has adorable and unique charm from the drive in to the decor within the house, to the fire pit in the back. The scenery and landscape of the property are so beautiful and interesting. Within the house itself we had everything we needed, including the perfect amount of remodeling without taking away from the authentic charm that the house possesses. We were able to effortlessly cook dinner on Friday night, and felt so at home. Cheryl was a gracious hostess and didn't disrupt us but made it clear that if we needed anything, she was available. An ideal combination for a VRBO rental! We would stay here again if we went back, and we were not ready to leave after a short weekend. Highly recommend!

Absolutely Wonderful
My husband and our pups had a glorious, relaxing long weekend at Cheryl's place. We had a couple of plans to do in the area, however once we checked into her home we did not leave for a day. The view is great, the weather was perfect and the home is so quaint, charming and welcoming. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a special stay. Once we packed up to leave we spent our final day at the beach, a great dog-friendly cafe in Carmel and left with such great comfort, rest and the great feeling after a perfect weekend.

Great place to unwind
This is a one bedroom rental that the owner, Cheryl, actually lives in when it is not rented out, so it has a "welcoming" feel to it, like you are staying at a friend's place that has gone out of town. It is beautifully decorated in a casual rustic style with a South American accent. The kitchen has everything one would need to prepare meals. There is a washer and dryer and a large walk-in shower. It has a wood stove and plenty of firewood for cool nights. The patio is equipped with a gas grill , a portable fire pit, chairs and table. The bedroom has a Tempurpedic mattress and a flat screen tv with with access to Tivo and tons of movie channels : Netflix, Amazon, etc.. There are two other houses on the property. One, the Hacienda, is another vacation rental, and the other is the home of a family member. Guests are asked not to disturb the other guests or the residence. The grounds are beautifully landscaped behind a gated entrance. There is a trailhead to Jack's Peak Park at the end of the main road about a mile up. The road has little traffic and great for walking as well. Cheryl, the friendly owner, and her sweet dog Duke, check in occasionally to make sure everything is going well. It is a very dog friendly rental with a fenced patio. The property boundary is fenced as well. The only limiting factors were the unsecure internet service and the spotty cell reception. If a person doesn't mind those 2 things and wants to unplug for a bit, then this is the perfect place to unwind -a beautiful, quiet retreat from the world that I would highly recommend. I stayed here for 7 days and left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
