Summary:
A RARE FIND AT PALO DURO CANYON STATE PARK!
Rider’s Roost at The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon offers guests over 6 acres of peace and quietude, with the convenience of being right next to the state park, Jeeping tours and riding stables.
Our old west experience includes farm animals and 19th century decor, with modern amenities.
Included are a carport and a screened-in porch. None of our competitors offer this.
Here you can relax and unwind in the true spirit of the old west!
The Space:
This is a barn-dominion. Our old west experience brings one back to a simpler time, complete with horses, a miniature goat, and Nigel, our rooster. A bottle of wine awaits, so you can relax and unwind in the peace and tranquillity this little hideout offers.
Note: This is a horse stable on a small farm. Farm animals make funny sounds, smell bad and have sex outdoors. Unless you can tolerate noise, and outdoor sex, this rental may not be for you.
We have only two rental cabins on the entire 6.5 acre property. No crowded resort cabin complexes.
Rider’s Roost is a living quarters built within a horse stable:
Upstairs has a 700 square foot room with 2 queen beds (extra roll away beds are available upon request), and a large living area with sofa, two recliners, a 46 inch Smart TV, and Netflix.
Downstairs enjoy a 150 square foot saloon style kitchenette furnished with a table that seats 4, a microwave, coffee pot, microwave bacon tray, crockpot, toaster oven, ice machine, sink and mini fridge. A bottle of wine is our gift to you!
Open the French doors to a 14x24 screened-in porch with large table, gliding sofa, 2 rocking chairs, large ice chest, propane fire pit and BBQ grill. We include one unused spare tank of propane.
There is also a full bathroom with walk-in shower. All bathing necessities included!
Texas panhandle weather can be unpredictable. We provide covered parking for protection of your vehicles (2 vehicles).
Our screened in porch offers respite from summer flies during your BBQ.
Our family owned business guarantees our guests a personal touch!
Guest Access:
Guests here enjoy over 6 acres of peace and quiet, with only one other rental cabin on the property ( See The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon- Buffalo Lodge).
If your party exceeds 4 people, please also rent The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon- Buffalo Lodge, which sleeps 4 people. That way your larger group can stay together on our 6.5 acre property.
We as hosts and owners of the property will frequently be on the property tending to the animals, watering trees, perhaps cleaning the other cabin on the property.
Please note ONLY the number of guests booked can be on the property. Guests cannot have additional visitors. Guests having parties or events such as weddings will be fined and asked to leave immediately.
No pets are allowed. Guests caught sneaking in pets will be fined and asked to leave immediately.
No smoking or vaping inside. Guests will be charged if professional services are required to clean smoke/vaping inside.
The Neighborhood:
Rider’s Roost is located approximately 1.5 miles from the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Palo Duro Riding Stables, Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeeping Tours, and Creek House Honey Farm.
The musical drama TEXAS can be seen in the state park’s outdoor amphitheater June through mid August.
We are 10 miles from the city of Canyon, home to WTAMU, and the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, which is the largest history museum in the state of Texas.
There are some great restaurants on the town square, such as Canyon Ranch Steak House, Sayakamaryns and the Back 40. Pepitos Mexican Restaurant on 23rd St. is one of our favorite restaurants in town.
Bar Z Winery is also nearby.
It’s about a 30-minute drive to the city of Amarillo, home to The Big Texan Steak Ranch and the famous Cadillac Ranch (be sure to bring a can of spray paint).
Getting Around:
There is no public transportation.
Other Things to Note:
You may notice our horses wander through the red gate onto our neighbor’s 25 acres. That property is however off limits for our guests. Trespassing laws would be enforced.
Please do not pet or feed the horses. Although they are friendly, the Texas Equine Inherent Risk Law prevails. By renting this property you release us of any or all liability associated with risks related to being around horses.
Additionally, we sometimes have rescue horses with possible health issues that would make feeding them treats risky, such as swallowing disorders, digestive disorders (prone to colic), or tooth issues. Again, we want to stress, do not feed them. Thank you.
Swimming in the pond is strictly prohibited.
This property is subject to HOA rules and regulations. It is in a quiet zone. Therefore, no parties, events, or outside music is allowed. No outside fires allowed. We do have a propane fire pit on the screened-in porch for guest use. Music is ok on the porch as long as it’s not so loud it can be heard at the other cabin or by our neighbors.
Due to the fact horses are on the property, the front entrance gate must remain closed at all times upon entering and exiting the property.
The property is a no drone zone. Use of drones is expressly prohibited.
We do not allow pets at this rental. However, we do allow one small dog at our second cabin on the property, The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon-Buffalo Lodge.
We do not ship forgotten items. If you leave personal items behind, we will donate them to local charities. Again, please do not contact us asking us to ship your forgotten items.
We do not accept 3rd party rentals. Only the party that books can be on property. You must be at least 25 years of age to book. We have a maximum occupancy of 4. No additional people allowed on the property at any time. Guests will be fined heavily for having parties or events such as weddings on the property.
Interaction with Guests:
Your Hosts, Andrea and John, live only 2 miles away and are available 24/7 to assist you. We arrive every morning to feed horses and muck stalls, then return in the evenings to put all the animals up for the night. We enjoy visiting with our guests, but also respect your privacy.
