We were two of us and stayed at Grassroots for 2 nights & 3 days between 17th to 19th June. Booking experience was brilliant. I booked through a third party website where the second day though the resort was closed, was showing to be unblocked after which I got a call from White Sky asking if I could change my reservation for a day earlier. But I could not do that and within a short while got a call from their end telling me that the resort will remain open for us on the 18th. Cheers to the host, Mr. Aditya for that.
Coming to the trip, we reached the resort for lunch at 2.30. We headed straight for lunch since we were starving. The food was delicious complete with a desert. Having a common dining room enables us to interact with the other guests (lot of foreigners also). After lunch we left to our tent after meeting Mr. Aditya. The tent is extremely luxurious, and cozy. The furniture adds to the luxurious interior and the lighting is perfect. The refrigerator and kettle provided in the room added to the convenience. I have to mention that the AC was extremely silent and the bathroom was simply amazing, it was the best bathroom we've ever set foot in any resort/hotel. The weather was really good and the rain splattering over the tent added on to the wonderful tent experience. One more important thing is the uninterrupted power supply even though there were frequent power cuts, the generator was in fact kept running for almost the entire night on the second day.
Dinner began with a couple of drinks below a slight drizzle beside the hammocks where they served starters. We were again greeted by Mr. Aditya who helped us with our plan for the next day. He even gave me very good advice on off-road trips / SUVs.
Now for some tips - If you want to have alcohol, you'll have to inform before hand to Mr. Aditya, because in Kerala you get them only at Govt. Owned MRP stores, or else you have to pick them up yourself. Make sure you carry mosquito repellant creams, the management will provide mosquito coils though.
The following day, after visiting some attractions, we reached very late ( around 4pm) for lunch, but the crew were well informed by Mr. Aditya that we would reach late for lunch.
One last thing is that we were running short of liquid cash by a few hundreds. So on the evening before checking out I asked the cook to open the gate so that I could withdraw some cash, for which he replied to not worry and that I can take one of the workers to the ATM the next day, pay the deficit and leave. Dinner was magnificent as well. The breakfast though complimentary is elaborate and filling. On checkout we were told that the money I was running short of was considered complementary by Mr. Aditya. I thank him a lot for this.
All in all I never imagined that staying in a tent would ever have been this luxurious, and the hospitality was amazing by Mr. Aditya and his crew.
Many people have expressed that the food is expensive, but when you total your expenses, you will actually realize that the entire experience is well worth the expense. We will surely go to Grassroots the next time we are at Wayanad.
