"Incredible setting; modern and very clean rooms. Beds are v comfortable and the area is silent; great sleep! Highly recommend including breakfast with your booking - it’s varied and has everything from freshly baked bread to hot cooked items to cold cuts, fruits, cheese, and pastries. Excellent coffee. Property does not provide VIP benefits - no room upgrade or welcome drinks as indicated. We had a beer and house wine and were charged for them. Disappointing but overall a really good stay and value."

"The Katla hotel was superb - neat, clean, courteous, professional waitstaff and front desk. Hallway lights were on a timer to conserve energy and there were recycle bins available. The food was incredible, including the decadent dinner buffet. They honestly left nothing to be desired. On our second morning, after a wonderful breakfast (included in your stay), our room key did not work. The front desk reset our keys (did not work), then gave us new keys (did not work), and finally called maintenance since it was assumed the issue was with the door lock and not the keys. Maintenance was able to get in with his own master key, but paused before letting us in, remarking that he wanted to make sure this was indeed our room. I was surprised, since the idea of crime in Iceland was completely non-existent, but comforted that they took our safety seriously. We were able to show him our passports once in the room to reassure him. That's quality service. "

"Overall we had a great stay in the Vik apartments. They were very spacious for a 2 BR apartment in a perfect location in the center of Vik with an easy walk up to the church on the hill, to the black sand beaches and to the Iceland wear outlet and Kronan right across the street. Super convenient. The kitchen was well setup for our stay and while we only stayed one night, would be a great location for a 2-3 night stay if you wanted to explore more in the area. They provided a key code for the front door which made it easy to check in at 8PM when we arrived. Parking was easy as well. Compared to other apartments we stayed in during our stay (in Reykjavik and Borgarnes) this was definitely the nicest and most modern. "

The design of the rooms combines modern comfort with Icelandic charm, and everything was spotless and well-maintained. Breakfast was exceptional — a generous spread of fresh pastries, local cheeses, fruits, and hot items that changed daily. The on-site restaurant also served one of the best dinners I had in Iceland, with local specialties like Arctic char and lamb, all beautifully presented. Service was courteous and warm, and the staff made every effort to ensure guests were comfortable and well taken care of. It felt both luxurious and personal, which is a rare combination. If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic, and upscale stay in South Iceland — especially if you want to experience the Northern Lights in comfort — I highly recommend Hotel Grímsborgir. I would gladly stay here again."
