The hotel is an old historic coaching inn in a prime location of Shrewsbury town.
It is an inn I have known my whole life and finally got to stay in.
It’s a fabulous location, parking in car park 2 could be improved. The hotel could go with an upgrade in some elements, expected due to its age. It is hugely disappointing that the history of the hotel, the guests is big made more of (Charles Dickens, Jenny Lind). The bar was closed due to a licensing issue which we were not aware of. There was a lack of Christmas spirit or ambience another element easily improved. The reception staff were barely communicative, as were the breakfast staff. I don’t understand why the communication skills are not a part of the job/role, after a long journey a welcome would have been nice, an explanation of the car park system or just any communication would have been professional and expected for such a hotel in such a location. Sad that we had that experience.
The food was good, the room delightful, clean comfortable warm. So much potential!
