This was a fantastic resort in the DR. We had a swim up room, located conveniently to restaurants, pool and the beach. Besides one snafu with a restaurant where they bumped our dinner booking an hour later, we had a great stay. We also booked a private transfer and an off-site day adventure from this resort, all of which went smoothly. I would recommend this place and would return myself as wel

Rooms were very nice, food was good, but service was quite bad everywhere. The resort was very full and it seems like they did not staff up appropriately, and/or salaries are low maybe? In any case, attitudes were not great. Book restaurants way in advance through the app, we tried 3 days before going and most were already full.

I really wanted to love Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda, especially since the decor is stunning and the buggy service was great. However, the experience was far from "Luxury." Check-in was incredibly slow. Our room was dirty: sand on the floor, coffee stains, and hair/soap residue in the tub. I called the concierge three times.. no one came. We even found toothpaste on the sheets; staff tried to claim it was "paint." By day two, the sand and tub still hadn't been cleaned. The food situation was disappointing. Lunch is limited to the buffet or sports bar. There is beachside dining, but it’s just another buffet with very limited options. Worst of all, there were flies everywhere.. in the buffets and the restaurants. Health warning for Punta Cana: the sand fleas are brutal. My child got big red bites on her arms and legs, and I got them on my hands and feet. They are very painful and itchy. The atmosphere was off. Staff seemed unhappy and the vibe was average. The Christmas entertainment was not up to the mark. Sad & Boring.. a depressed elf and a Santa wasting time. Hardly anyone stayed to watch. Overall, not worth it, especially for the festive season. You’re paying for a luxury name but getting poor service and bad hygiene.

The resort claims luxury, far from it. Restaurant bookings became messed up, we were 9 bookings were made for 6 multiple times. This led to situations two evenings at restaurants. In the buffet roughly 50% of the items were not labeled. If you are vegetarian you are very limited to a few items. The staff themselves are very good and helpful. Twice at restaurants and once at the buffet they claimed they had no tea bags. My daughter was locked out of her room in 2 occasions and was forced to wait outside for someone to come and fix her lock, both times the batteries for the lock were changed. On Christmas Eve there was a fixed menu, Fish or Meat. Again very surprised no vegetarian options. I could go in with smaller issues but I would recommend go to another brand resort.

⭐ 1 Star – Very Disappointing Experience I had a very disappointing stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda in Punta Cana. For a resort marketed as “luxury,” this experience fell far below expectations. There were bugs crawling in our room, which was unacceptable and made the stay very uncomfortable. At the buffet, food labeling was poor, and vegetarian options were not clearly described. At the live cooking stations, the same hot plate was used for all foods without cleaning between orders, and the same spoon was used across all vegetable dishes, resulting in meat being mixed into the vegetables. This is a serious concern for hygiene, dietary restrictions, and food allergies. Communication was also difficult, as many staff members did not speak English, making it challenging to address concerns or ask basic questions. Overall, this resort does not meet the standards expected of a luxury all-inclusive. I do not recommend this resort based on cleanliness, food handling practices, and overall service.

Clean and well-maintained rooms with cordial staff. Breakfast offered a good variety, and the dinner restaurants served excellent food with well-designed menus. The resort has two outdoor pools and is overall very well kept. Entertainment was enjoyable, with daily activities, and the holiday lights added a nice festive touch. The outdoor seating areas, including near the sports bar, were a plus. It was great that Esmeralda guests had access to the other sister resorts within the complex. Good connection between resorts through frequent shuttles. However, compared to some of the other resorts, the Esmeralda lobby felt a bit average, and amenities like a coffee or dessert shop were missing. While the staff was friendly, limited English proficiency at times made basic communication challenging. For an international resort, improved English communication would enhance the guest experience. Beach is well maintained but not long enough. Ample chairs and tiki huts available. Stayed for 5 nights and Overall had great experience And highly recommend.

I booked a room with a swim up pool and I was unable to utilize the pool for the last 3 days of my stay because there were dead water bugs floating around. I called and went to the desk several times to get someone to clean the pool and no one ever came. I paid for a room that I was not able to fully utilize and it’s unfair. I also have footage of the bugs in the pool.

Traveling with a baby, they gave us a room next to the cafe area which hosts lots of activities through the evening and night resulting in noise which was unbearable and lots of foot traffic and noisy people walking late into the night. Repeated calls to hotel were ignored. They had no decency to even apologize. Never coming back. Off, the buffet is not great. No taste in the food.

The staff is undertrained and not helpful at all. The hotel is basic and does not meet 5-star standards. The buffet food is poor, repetitive, and unappetizing, and hygiene is a serious concern—the buffet area is often dirty and kitchen staff do not use gloves. Additionally, guests are supposedly required to reserve the à la carte restaurants before arriving, yet no email or information is sent prior to arrival. As a result, you arrive at the hotel only to find out that all restaurants are already overbooked, forcing you to eat at the buffet every day. The room is acceptable, but overall I would not recommend this hotel or return.

We recently stayed at Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda and had an enjoyable experience, especially with the accommodation. Our room was spacious, clean, and had an amazing ocean view. The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping kept the room spotless throughout our stay. The resort itself was beautiful, with well-kept grounds and plenty of amenities to keep us entertained. Unfortunately, the food and staff didn’t quite live up to the resort’s other features. The dining options were repetitive, and we found some of the meals to be bland and lacking in flavor. We were expecting a wider variety of fresh, local cuisine but were often disappointed with what was offered. The staff, while some were friendly, generally provided slow and indifferent service. We had several occasions where we had to wait a long time for assistance or help with basic requests. This lack of attention to customer service definitely impacted our overall experience. Majority of the staff didn’t speak English at all. All in all, while the accommodation and location were fantastic, the food and service were below expectations. If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay with great rooms and views, this resort is worth considering, but be prepared that the dining and service may not be as stellar as you'd expect from an all-inclusive.

The room was nice, but the bathroom was definitely not updated. Bathroom had a sewer smell at times, the bathtub was old and marked up, and shower had rusty old marbled tiles. We could hear animals or bugs at night in our vents near the door. Cockroach seen at lounge bar and one in our bathroom. Some staff were friendly, some don’t even make eye contact, will only attend to you if you tip first! Spent most of the week trying to find out where everything was, had to use cellphone too much for restaurants and information. Overall, would not go back.

The staff members are not friendly to LGBTQ+ and interracial travelers and couples. We are extremely upset and disappointed. We didn't get service almost every time we went to the buffet, the rooms are dirty and smells like sewer, and the excursion was not what we paid for. Many other guests we talked to were disappointed as well in the resort.

The room service was okay! I had to ask them to refill the body-wash and shampoo, but they didn’t seem to care after following up twice with housekeeping. The variety of food at the restaurants was amazing! We tried five different places: Casa Bella, Italian, El Olive, Mediterranean, Limbo, French, M.E.A.T - Steakhouse, and Yurta, Mongolian. Casa Bella was the worst because the pastas had no taste. All of those places were amazing! The buffets were nice too!
