We visited Positano at the end of a two week tour around Italy. It was paradise and Villa La Tartana was such a beautiful place to stay. We were there for my husband’s birthday so I arranged with Alfonso to have a bottle of champagne waiting in the room and, even though I responded with short notice, he made it happen. The property and our room were beautifully decorated, clean, and very well maintained. Our ‘partial’ view of the water was hardly obstructed at all. We sat on our balcony and enjoyed watching the boats. The location was awesome too. Hubby and I roamed around Positano and it was quite hilly (as you can clearly see from pictures) but our villa was very close to the main beach and did not require a lot of effort to get to and from. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here!

Our stay in Positano was made all the better by the hospitality at Villa La Tartana. Alfonso at the front desk tended to our every need and made sure our time was well spent. The accommodations were perfect for our family of four and the location just steps (lots of steps here) from the beach.

The staff here was super helpful and friendly- they arrange transport, setup tours, and were extremely attentive. Alfonso took care of everything for me and was amazing! That being said, the property itself is kind of dated. It’s giving 90s - core and the room we had was extremely small for the price.

My family and I spent 8 nights at the Villa la Tartana in two sea view balcony rooms. We loved this hotel. The location is awesome! Very close to beach/sea and so many shops and restaurants. The entire hotel staff is SO friendly and helpful. Especially, Alfonso! He radiates happiness and sunshine. We really enjoyed the morning breakfast in the lobby.

La atención recibida excepcional. El desayuno te lo ofrecen en el pequeño comedor que tienen, ofrecen fruta, yogur, dulces, cereales, embutidos, queso, tomate, ... muy bueno. Cogimos una habitación con balcón y vistas, excepcional. Se veía el mar, la cúpula de la catedral por detrás y buena parte de Positano en la montaña, muy bonito. La habitación algo pequeña pero muy bonita, limpia, con jabones y champús, nevera, armario, tv. El hotel está súper céntrico. Obviamente al ser Positano tiene un par de tramos de escaleras para llegar desde el ferry, pero nada exagerado. Son las escaleras que sí o sí harás pues llevan a la catedral. El único pero es que se oía un ruido en la habitación que venía de fuera, como de un aire acondicionado, no nos molestó para dormir. La verdad es que todas las casas están tan apretadas y metidas una encima de otras que es normal que se oigan según que ruidos.

As perfectly centrally located as I can imagine for Positano. There are better views, more amenities etc. at other places, but Tartana still has a great view and you don’t have to walk far to enjoy everything. As for crowds, you are literally above the crowds in your view patio. All of Positano is steep and narrow, so it pays to be close in. Owner Sylvia was nice as could be, as were the rest of the staff. We chose it based upon the Expedia descriptions and reviews and were not disappointed.

I encountered several issues during my stay. The shower had a leak, and I was puzzled at first why I was given three floor towels, but I quickly realized they were necessary to prevent flooding. After checking in and going out for dinner, we returned to find the floor covered in ants. The room was very small, with a view of ongoing construction. On the positive side, the balcony was nice, and the location was convenient. However, the service was disappointing—there was no assistance with luggage, and everything was handled incredibly slowly. Additionally, the receptionist had limited English skills. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel.

Charming property in excellent location

Lovely small hotel with old world charm and such friendly staff, especially front desk manager Alphonso! We were in economy rooms, which were not large, but perfectly adequate for our needs. Our rooms were on the third floor (warning: no elevator, and 47 steps up) and had beautiful cathedral/vaulted ceilings. Both rooms had balconies that looked to the sea, and one even had a separate balcony off the bathroom. The location was so convenient to the city center and port. Do be aware, however, that the hotel is located in the pedestrian zone, meaning not accessible by vehicles. If you arrive by taxi or private transport, you and all your luggage will be dropped at the taxi stand (or perhaps optionally at Parking Migliaccio, a tad bit closer, for a small additional fee) for a nice long walk to the hotel. If you have a lot of luggage, you will definitely want to arrange with the hotel for a porter service to transport the luggage. (Porter services are provided by private companies, charging 10 euros/piece - and double that if pickup is before 7am.)
