Agrielia Villa | Sgourokefali | Heraklion Crete

The villa “AGRIELIA” is housed in a restored traditional stone house of two
floors(178,93 m²) in the village Sgourokefali in Heraklion. By decision of the Municipality of Heraklion – Urban Planning, the hostel was characterized as traditional. The restoration was done with more care by artisans of the stone so as not to lose the character of the house. It retains all the elements of traditional architecture, combining respect for tradition with the comforts of a modern guesthouse.

The ground floor has a separate, fully equipped kitchen with a fireplace, large living room with an arch separating the living from the dining room, spacious bedroom with double bed (15 sq.m.) overlooking the eastern courtyard and a large bathroom with Jacuzzi. The living room of the ground floor has traditional furnishing and a fireplace. The ground floor of the hostel around two courtyards is filled with flowers, colors, smells, where guests can relax and enjoy the view. In the courtyard entrance (west terrace) there is an old well and old stone staircase, which give a specific tone in the place.

The eastern courtyard of the hotel has a swimming pool (Pool size: 4m width. / Length 6m. / Depth 1.40 m). The pool water is fresh, not sea, disinfected with a modern and eco-system with ozone. This system gives the best disinfection with minimal use of chemicals and also provides ozone therapy. The place has a barbeque. Here visitors can enjoy coffee or a meal in the lounge by the pool or dine under the wooden pergola. The floor of the hostel consists of a bedroom (15 sq.m.) with two single beds, one bedroom (23 sq.m.) with double bed and a sofa - bed for two persons, bathroom with hydro massage shower (Jacuzzi). Both bedrooms have a sharing balcony.
Also, from the hall you have access to another large balcony.

Stelios and Maria were very welcoming and always available if we needed anything. The accommodation offered us everything we needed and was well located for trips to the beach, Heraklion and the airport. Some good recommendations from Stelios so try those out. We had welcome gifts when we arrived and Stelios’ parents next door also kindly dropped in some fruit. Enjoy the sounds of the countryside and the cicadas and make the booking. You won’t be disappointed.

The house is exactly as shown in the photos. The owner met us on arrival and showed us how everything worked. He and his wife had also left enough food for us to eat that night as our flight was in very late and the shops were closed. The property is very beautiful and private. You definitely need a car to get there and travel around. The surrounding village has supermarkets and a bakery. There are also several cafes and restaurants. It is only about 20 mins from the airport which was very handy. The villagers were very friendly and helpful. I know another reviewer mentioned the cicadas, which are very noisy but they are very noisy all over Crete so hard to avoid.

Relaxing rural retreat
We loved our stay at Villa Agreilia. It is large, very comfortable, well-equipped, and the pool and terrace area are stunning. Thoughtful provision of some fresh eggs, water, olive oil and raki. Extremely good and easy communication before and throughout our stay. Stelios also sent many excellent recommendations (shops, restaurants, beach clubs etc). You definitely need a car but it is easy to get around and Villa Agreilia made the perfect base for exploring the north of the island. Very conveniently located for Heraklion airport (20 mins drive). We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here and were very sad when our holiday came to an end. Yamas Stelios and Maria!

Lovely, mostly quiet and peaceful
Stelios and his family met us at the property and showed us around. The villa is lovely with a perfect small pool, clean tidy and well provisioned. There was a religious festival one day and the neighbours were playing music late into the night - the rest of the week all was quiet and peaceful. A couple of small problems were sorted out quickly and efficiently by Stelios after an exchange of What’sApp messages. Thank you for a great stay

On arrival we were greeted by the wonderful Stelios & Maria. Welcome goodies where ready for us & the owners showed us around. They were more than helpful to advise local authentic restaurants & places to visit. The Mini-market had all we needed just a few minutes from the Villa. The bikes were ready & any problems, Stelios was on hand to sort. This Villa was so beautiful inside & maintained to a very high standard throughout. I can highly recommend for a relaxing break. Thankyou for the most relaxing break I have had in years!!!! Car recommend. Thanks so much I will be back!

Amazing villa
My mom is from Crete and i have been many times. We have always stayed with family in Heraklion. This time we decided to rent a villa in a more quiet part of Heraklion. The villa was amazing and was exacttay as described. I loved the stone architecture throughout the villa and differently fit with the old world theme of the village. It was very spacious and my kids enjoyed the pool while I enjoyed the view. Village was small and quiet. Exactly what i was looking for. A fabulous place to stay!!
We wanted somewhere with a pool near where our son was getting married but also not too far from Hereklion and coast. A fantastic home, with all possible facilities and equipment you could wish for. Stelios and Maria were amazing welcoming hosts and the ladies who came midweek carried out a thorough clean & linen/towel change. Thank you very much. We would love to return. Strongly recommend.

Beautiful villa set in a lovely little town
We’ve spent a week here and absolutely loved the villa. It’s about 20 mins outside Heraklion and was a great base to explore the island. The villa was well laid out for our family of 5 and had everything that we could need. The villa was very clean and the sheets were changed and another clean done mid week. The pool was lovely and had the sun throughout the day. Thank you for having us.

Wonderful Villa
We had the most wonderful week at the Villa, we could have stayed longer very easily. It offered everything we needed. You absolutely need a car but the neighbouring villages have lovey little restaurants and mini fruit and veg shops. Lidl is only 18 minutes drive and has everything you need. The Cicada beach bar / restaurant / sunbeds was amazing well worth a visit and again only 15 mins away Our hosts were incredible, super responsive and offered recommendations of restaurants, bars and beaches and ordered us taxis on departure. We would love to return Best Michelle

We had a lovely time at Villa Agrielia. Stelios and Maria were very welcoming and the villa is spotlessly clean. It's only a 20 minute drive from the airport, 15 mins to the beach and is located in a central location to explore the rest of the island. The Villa is very quiet in a small sleepy village with Episkopi just up the road which has some nice cafes and a handy shop.

Quiet villa break in lovely surroundings
The villa is really easy to get to from Heraklion airport a quick 20 minutes mainly straight road there. Maria and Stelios met us and settled us into the property giving us a warm welcome. They were responsive and available throughout our stay to answer any questions. The villa is exactly as it looks on the photos - bedrooms clean and comfortable, several seating areas to maximise the sunshine and good air conditioning. Kitchen had everything needed to make family meals. The pool area was great and we spent most of our time lounging around the pool and the table at night. Due to coronavirus we only went out a couple of times for food - again easy to get to Heraklion and Gouves with wide variety of places to try. There are also nearby taverna to go to. The local supermarket in Episkopi were pretty well stocked and very friendly and helpful. Overall a great villa with easy access to more touristy locations if desired.

Superb House in a lovely location
A beautiful high quality property which is full of character, very well equipped and obviously converted with love. Wonderful Villa, Warm Welcome
The villa is as fabulous as it looks in the photos. Stelios and Maria are great hosts and have thought of every little detail. The villa is incredibly well-equipped, the rooms are all spacious and the pool area is beautiful. The welcome by the couple along with the home cooked products and local produce is very generous and kind. We would definitely recommend the villa and the lovely quiet location.

Wonderfull Holyday in Villa AGRIELIA
Villa AGRIELIA is a beautiful accommodation with a great view over the valey. The owner is very hospitable and we got several times surprises like fruits and self made meals and eggs during our stay. He was always available for us and very courteous. The Villa was very clean and the cleaning women was coming two times a week. The Villa is very separated and a car is required for the stay. We were living with 4 people in the house and really enjoyed our Holliday in Villa AGRIELIA.

Beautiful villa, with every detail thought of.
Our family had a wonderful week at Villa Agrielia. It was the perfect base to explore and a secluded refuge to return to. Stelios and Maria could not have been more welcoming or helpful and it was lovely to be left a selection of local treats to enjoy. The villa is perfect, if you like a quiet spot away from the usual tourist routes, although it's easy to get to Heraklion and other sights and is only 15 minutes from the airport. Plenty of shops in the next village, Episkopi, and a lovely taverna recommended by Stelios. The villa is beautifully traditional with cool rooms and plenty of space. The main terrace and pool area are green and leafy, totally private and very sunny. There are three other terraces and balconies to choose from or seek solitude on. House is very well equipped with excellent aircon in the bedrooms. We only found Greek TV channels but we didn't miss the TV and the wifi is great, certainly able to stream a movie when needed. All in all, a lovely holiday. Thank you!

Wir waren 10 Tage in der wunderschönen Villa von Stelios. Es war alles vorhanden und unser Gastgeber hat uns Nachts (1 Uhr) super herzlich empfangen und uns den Kühlschrank für das Frühstück befüllt und sogar einen Wein bereitgestellt. Der Pool war super und alles sehr sauber! Wir hatten eine super Zeit und haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt. Auch bei Fragen konnten wir uns immer an ihn wenden und er hat sich direkt um eine Lösung gekümmert. eine.

Lovely house near Heraklion
It is a very lovely house, very well situated to visit Heraklion and other sites in the center of Crete. Altough the house is in a village, it is very calm. Stelios, the owner, is very gentle and answers queries. We would definitely recommend it.
