Nestled amongst the evergreens & near the shore of Lake Superior, Pinecone Retreat is your escape from the stress, pace, and distractions of everyday life. It’s where you can re-connect with friends, family, or just yourself. We welcome adults, children of all ages, as well as your canine companions.
Pinecone Retreat offers the authentic south shore cabin experience, but with all the modern amenities you need & the creature comforts you crave during your trip to the northwoods.
Your host lives nearby and is available anytime you require assistance, have questions, etc.
The South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S.
The home is just a few minutes from the center of Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Bayfield is about 35 minutes away, as is Washburn (where you’ll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 45 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.
Feel your stress melt away as you make the drive up the pine tree-lined drive and step into the front screen porch. The first thing you’ll notice (other than the natural beauty & peace and quiet) is the abundance of outdoor gathering spaces: the screen porch with comfy wicker seating, the deck with chaise lounges overlooking the woods, and a fire pit for lounging in the evening, perhaps as you enjoy some S’mores.
Step inside and take in the cozy, comfy, and well thought out interior. The cabin interior features an open plan dining-living-kitchen layout. Just off the entry is the first bedroom, outfitted with two twin beds. Thoughtful attention to detail & northwoods charm is evident throughout. The overall feel of the cabin is warm, welcoming, and with a little bit of whimsy.
The dining area has a circular table with seating for six adults. The main living area features a comfy couch and side chairs (enough seating for 6 adults), adjacent to the wood stove (we’ll even provide the wood!).
The kitchen is outfitted with everything you need to self-cater: coffee maker (drip + Keurig options), small appliances, cookware, and utensils. All obsessively labeled to make it easy to find what you need!
The back half of Pinecone Retreat is a delight, perfect for extended families or multiple couples. Separated by a glass door that gives a surprising amount of sound-proofing (and thanks to a curtain, privacy), this space allows for night owls and early birds to co-exist peacefully.
The space features a living area with a cozy sectional that converts to a full-size bed, television with DVD player, an awesome vintage stereo, and a slipper chair that converts to a twin-size bed.
The master bedroom is adjacent to this area, with a queen-size bed, armoire, and our favorite feature: direct access to the spacious deck that runs the length of the cabin. No better place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine!
A glass patio door opens from the other side of the back living area, granting access to yet another outdoor gathering place: a concrete patio with grill, seating & dining table, and just a few steps away from the fire pit.
You’ll enjoy complete privacy with seven acres of woods surrounding the cabin, which backs up to county nature preserve land.
Pinecone Retreat is the real south shore experience: all the attention to detail you’d expect from a high-end Bayfield peninsula rental, but without the stuffiness or lack of character. We want you to kick your shoes off, put your feet up, relax and enjoy the company of friends, family, and your furry four-footed companions.
