"It provides a good Japanese hospitality as usual. The buffet breakfast and dinner are good (we shouldn't book them for both nights as we were just too full after the first night). The hotel could invest in renewing some of its facility but it was still a pleasant stay. My only complaint is that the breakfast finishes at 9am which is far too early for European guests."

"This is the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in while in Japan. Every floor has a different layout and the rooms themselves are like small houses. Everything is spacious, and ease to get around. Plus, the onsens are AMAZING. I almost fell asleep while using one. Most of the staff doesn't speak English, so either practice your Japanese or bring a translator with you. "

"What a great experience! Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, and delicious food. The cats theme is charming and we loved being able to spend time with them. It was nice having a private onsen and since there are limited guests, we didn’t have to reserve and were able to bathe whenever we asked. "I had an amazing time at Ryokan Yufuin Tsubaki. I booked the half-board stay at Tsubaki using Expedia and the staff at Tsubaki was in contact with me almost immediately to confirm the details and finalize the pick up time from Yufuin Station. Note that as a fan of walking, even Tsubaki's location is a bit far from the Yufuin Station so once the staff picks you up at the train station to take you back to the ryokan (around 3pm), you will likely end up spending the rest of your time at the ryokan...

"Very special property that we loved. We stayed in January and esp loved the onsen and subfloor heating. Check in was easy enough because there was the option of online pre-registration. The road to the house was windy but not too bad - note that the GPS in the rental car may not show you the way. We used Google maps and got there without difficulty. We were thankful to have a 4WD and snow tires, because there was ice on parts of the road. Highly recommend the place!"
