SEA & RIVER HOUSE is an attractive, welcoming home sitting 120 feet above the ocean and one mile from the Navarro River inlet. We are located 130 miles north of San Francisco and 10 miles south of Mendocino and close to Anderson Valley's many wineries. Come see us!
To the south of the house is a view of magical Brokeback Cove and beyond to the Point Arena lighthouse which flashes at night. North a mile, where the Navarro River (known for steelhead fishing) meets the ocean, is an extensive sand beach to explore and throw a frisbee or build a driftwood fort. Swimming "holes" ( a favorite of our kids) can be found at several points along the Navarro River in the redwood forest.
The house offers four bedrooms (2 queen beds, one full, 2 twins ), a game room with futon, wood burning stove fireplace and outside chiminea, hot tub, two bathrooms,, and expansive decks on two levels. Six people are easily accomodated. It affords wonderful space for people to gather or to separate and find a quiet spot to read or watch hummingbirds come to a feeder. Kids of all ages can congregate in the lower level game room to play foosball, throw darts or watch a movie on the wall mounted large screen TV. Moving outside to the lower level deck, they can soak in the large hot tub, roast marshmallows in the chiminea or sit watching the hypnotic spinning of a copper windmill set in the ocean side yard. Two bedrooms and the game room have streaming (Netflix and Amazon Prime and local TV) TV plus a stock of movie dvds At night the star display is amazing for those from light polluted cities.
Living Areas: The interior of the upper level of the house is redwood.. The upper level includes the dining room. living room, kitchen, three bedrooms (one a "bunk room") and full bath. The lower level, reached by a stunning spiral staircase, contains the game room and 4th bedroom and 2nd bathroom. Most people receive cell phone service.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a new gas stove, new set of pots and pans, a good stock of cooking utensils, and Corelle dishware. On the upper deck is a large Weber for outside grilling. The kitchen sink back splash is glass tiled and the view out the kitchen door is to the ocean. Even dish washing gets better.
The living room has a couch and two chairs with reading lamps and centers around the wood burning fireplace. A small bench doubles as a coffee table or added seating, There is a small but mighty sound system. A ceiling fan cools the room at the end of warm days
The dining area over looks the cove and seats six at an oval table. It is also a great spot to play board games. There is additional outdoor dining (except in winter months) for 4 at an outdoor table set on the upper deck. The lower deck has a 2 person bistro table where you can sip coffee or wine or have a private dinner for two. Table is stored in winter.
Bedrooms: Every queen or double bed is covered with a featherbed or foam topper and then a beautiful quilt. The upper level master bedroom has a ceiling fan. The lower bedroom boasts a canopy bed and vintage oil seascape paintings. Sliding doors open to the lower deck with large flower planters, hot tub etc. Bookcases in each room offer good reads for all tastes. Games are stocked in the "bunk room."
Grounds: In the back (Hwy. 1 side) of the house is a rough picnic table and view of the mountains. In the front (ocean side) is an expanse of ice plant which blooms in bright colors which is edged by an herb garden for cooks. There is a lot of rosemary but also thyme, sage, and other favorite culinary herbs in a round planter at the end of the lower deck. Beyond the herb plantings is a gate to the cliff promontory with what Pete calls "lover's bench." Great place for photos. A small shore pine hangs off the cliff. The beach at Navarro River can be reached by walking or driving.
